Invest in Education, Not Endless War
The US federal government is spending more than 10 times as much on its military than it is on education. An imbalanced figure that is often mirrored at a local level. While our tax dollars are used to fuel unending wars that line the pockets of the military industrial complex, our communities at home are left to fight their own battles with whatever resources are left for them.
It has taken centuries for women to gain full educational rights, and even today, those hard-earned opportunities are at risk. Abortion restrictions not only limit bodily autonomy but also jeopardize educational opportunities. For many women, restricted reproductive healthcare can derail their ability to pursue higher education, often forcing them to sacrifice or abandon their studies. I will always support women's reproductive rights to ensure they can pursue their education and future without barriers.
For a lot of students, limits on free speech and intimidation on campus can distract from their education, forcing them to choose between speaking up or feeling safe, and often having to give up one for the other. I fully support giving MSJC Student Trustees a full voting privilege on the board to ensure they are not only seen but also heard.
There is a war being waged on our children's future, on their innocence and their dreams. Sensible, bipartisan common sense firearm reform is held back to appease gun fetishists and LARPers at the expense of children's lives, safety and mental health. Children and students of all ages deserve to feel safe at school.
